Nucleotomy

Nucleotomy
  • Last Update: 08/08/2022

Although this technique is similar to the nucleoplasty method, the procedure performed here is not the evaporation of the disc tissue causing the hernia, but the automatic release of it.

In this procedure, which is performed in the operating room and under completely sterile conditions, the patient is not given narcosis and a scalpel is not used. It is a completely painless and bloodless procedure. Accompanied by the imaging of movable X-ray devices, which we call C-arm, and the insertion site of the needles is anesthetized with local anesthesia, the disc is entered and the gel-like cells of the disc causing hernia are automatically cut and sucked out.

The cambered part pressing on the nerves in the centrally emptied disc, namely the cushions, is retracted, so that the situation pressing on the nerves is eliminated, the abnormal situation is improved, and the patient is freed from hernia. This process is completely mechanical and is applied in experienced hands without any problems. This process takes about 15 minutes. We send the patient home 2 hours after the procedure. We discharge the patients with advising 2 days of bed rest and 1 week of heavy lifting and not standing for much. The success rate in this attempt is around 85%. It is a somewhat expensive method.
